The Simple Things Are The Hardest to Do

I just watched a travel show titled Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern that features exotic delicacies from all over the worlds. Today's episode feature food from Japan. In one segment of the show, he featured a world-class sushi chef who was just awarded 3 Michelin Stars. The sushi chef's restaurant only seats 14 persona and each sushi is prepared by the chef in front of you one piece at a time. After sampling several sampling of the masterfully crafted sushi, the host commented that in Japan sushi is one of the easiest food to prepare but such is simple food is hardest to do. He then commented that when a food is simple, other factors come in like the relationship of the chef to his creation. Since, the sushi is prepared one at a time and served immediatley, each piece must be perfect because the customers will definetly notice undesirable taste immediately.

I pondered on his statement that simple things are hardest to do because I realized that in life there are things that are basically easy but we cannot easily perform. Just like a asking a woman out or saying sorry for a mistake that you've made. What makes them difficult to do is because there are several factors, that would come in first in your mind, that would make you hesitate. Things that are not necessarily involved in the process comes in and distorts your thoughts. The totality of the thing to do is now in question.

Are you sincere?
How bad do you want it?
Are you sure?
Why are you doing it?

Your character is now involved in the decision to do simple things. It is important to show the sincerity, the genuine act of doing it. You must first justify to yourself the action that you're going to do before doing it to the one it is intended for. It is foolish to try to justify to yourself something that you know is a lie because in living a lie, you wouldn't like to wake up for fear of the consequences of the truth

I don't know how to end this thought because there are still a lot of things swirling in my head about this topic. Maybe i'm just trying to complicate simple things or to some oversimplifying the thought process.

Columbo Collection

At last after months of waiting, my order of the complete set of episodes of the TV show Columbo has finally arrived. I have already collected TV shows like X-Files, Monk, Frasier and this show is a welcome addition to my collection. The show is produced like a TV movie and shows less than 10 episodes per year. I don't know if it is still running today.

The unique part of the show is that, you will see the perpetrator of the crime at the very beginning of the show. You don't have to guess anymore and it isn't a surprise who it is anymore. As the show proceeds, we will go on a journey on how Columbo solves the mystery by way of his deductive skills. He just talks politely, questions & listen to your answers, and observes a lot. And also, he says that he is always puzzled.

My father introduced the show to me as a child because he likes shows that highlights detective skills rather than violence. Columbo is the 70s version of Sherlock Holmes because he uses his intellect rather than firepower. Presently, Monk similar to that of Columbo.

Columbo is portrayed by Peter Falk. I saw him in the movie "City of Angels" and show him basically as Columbo. I don't think he needs to act as Columbo because he is Columbo. His mannerisms have made him one of the most beloved characters ever created on TV

And now that i'm about to finish watching all the episodes of Frasier, Columbo would be next.

Hmmm..what will I collect next. M.A.S.H., Cheers, Peroit...

Frasier... I'm Listening

After work, I get home and watch at least 2-3 episodes of the comedy show Frasier. I got a copy of the complete 11 seasons which aired from 1993-2004. I first got acquainted with Frasier when I was watching reruns of Cheers on cable. I enjoyed that show too.

I love watching the show and found myself laughing all the time. The other family members in the house oftentimes doesn't understand why I laugh during the scenes from the show. Oftentimes, when they try to watch it, they don't understand what the characters are talking about. I guess one must have at least up to date with current events and history to understand some of what the characters are saying. Although there are times that I don't understand what they are talking about. It makes me do research on some of their topics to further understand the show.

And it didn't come as a surprise to me when MENSA named Frasier as one of the smartest television show ever created. The writers of the show didn't make the show too mainstream to be understood by all. They kept the show intelligent, as it should be. All the main characters are funny with Frasier and Niles portraying the snobbish elite, Martin and Roz as the everyday persons and Daphne as the out of this world thinker. Let us not forget Eddie, he became quite a character on the show.

I highly recommend watching Frasier to all. Not only will it make you laugh, you will also learn a bit or two about society.
